Additional
Information |
Taichung is the third largest city
on the island. During Taiwan's 50 years of Japanese occupation,
Taichung was the center of government. The Japanese built the road
network, government buildings, and other structures that remain
today. Many believe the Japanese chose Taichung because it has the
best climate on the island.
The city has prospered in recent times, and now claims to be the
heart of the islandˇ¦s small and medium-sized manufacturing
industries. This new-found prosperity gave rise to museums, enormous
shopping centers, restaurants and a great night life.
For those who are into mountain climbing and the outdoors, Taichung
is also a major jump-off point for trips into the spectacular
Central Mountain Range. There are also several stores selling
outdoor gear located all over Taichung City.
