If you arrive too early, your waiting time for classes to start would be longer.  Remember, you will not begin to receive pay until you begin teaching.  So if you plan to arrive long before classes start, make sure you have enough funds to cover your expenses.

If you arrive too late, classes would have started and you would miss out on that position.

The easiest way to book a flight for Taiwan is through a travel agency.  Your travel agent will know which airlines have promotions that provide cheaper tickets.

One-way or Round-trip Ticket:

You need to book a round-trip ticket.  Upon arrival in Taiwan, you need to show the immigration officer that you have a ticket out of Taiwan.  The destination of the return flight is not important.

It is advisable that you leave the date of the return flight open ended.  This leaves you more room to work around your return flight.  Also airlines usually charge a service fee for changing flight dates.
